This is awesome, but very bizarre:

She links to the SMH article, which says:
'Pelvis thrusting' is about right- you can tell it's been choreographed by a teenage boy, the entire routine screams 'isn't it awfully nice to have a penis'.
The Chooky dancers- most of whom don't speak English, let alone Greek- are currently touring Australia, have performed on Australia's Got Talent, and hope to take their Zorba routine to Greece next year.
YouTube also has a scratchy video of their Superman routine (who SANG that song? Aqua?), and the Zorba routine as performed at something called Dreaming Festival 2008

Not one of the Chooky Dancers owns a computer. But their foot-shuffling, pelvis-thrusting moves have made them internet stars.
As of yesterday, 867,573 people had viewed the Aboriginal teenagers' video on YouTube, a jerky dance to a techno version of Zorba's Dance, from the film Zorba The Greek.

Date: 2008-06-16 05:53 am (UTC)They've got some moves. I've seen "professional cheerleaders' (haha, that always makes me scoff) who've got less sync than those boys. The Superman routine is bizarre because they look so ... er, primitive. There's something odd about seeing people who look so primitive doing a dance routine like that!

Date: 2008-06-16 05:56 am (UTC)I hear some NRL team somewhere has a percussion troupe instead of cheerleaders these days... maybe someone ought to take this lot on as half-time entertainment?
Actually, I reckon the Chooky Dancers can do better things than that, anyway. I'll be interested to see what they come to...
